So last night I took my daughter to her first classical music concert at my old high school with my sister Charlotte. She's only 3 months old, so I know this sounds crazy but me being the artsy fartsy person that I am, I figured that it wouldn't be a bad thing to take her.
So we get there and grab seats on the end of the row, which everyone knows are especially for moms and their potentially screaming infants. Everly though, being the humble baby that she is, was perfectly smiley and content when we sat down. I took her out of her car seat and sat her on my lap. At this point she was still happy and cooing away. The lights go dim and a very stocky-build woman comes on stage to announce the first act. It was a harpist. So I instantly thought, 'oh yes! something sweet that wouldn't send Everly into high jolting.' The musician sat down and got settled in at her harp, then started to strum. Charlotte and I turned to Everly at the same time to see her reaction to the music and then we saw it- the saddest pouty lip EVER. She didn't cry, so that's proof that she legitimately didn't like the sound she was hearing.
I guess the little artist I'm hoping to instill in Everly will have to be done at a different approach because she definitely gave her opinion about that loud and clear.
I think I should go back to Target and return the Baby Einstein symphony CD I just bought...
